The 7-Eleven plus Speedway network
In 2021, 7-Eleven acquired Speedway from Marathon Petroleum in a $21 billion deal that immediately made the combined entity the largest US convenience-store and fuel retailer by station count. The integration has been gradual. Many former Speedway stations still operate under that brand, particularly in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and the broader Midwest where Speedway had its densest legacy footprint. Others have transitioned to 7-Eleven branding. The Speedy Rewards loyalty program continues at legacy locations while gradually merging into 7Rewards.
How 7Rewards saves you money on fuel
7Rewards is the official 7-Eleven loyalty program enrolled through the 7-Eleven app. Members earn points on food, drinks, and fuel purchases. Points redeem for free in-store items and per-gallon fuel discounts. The program runs frequent multiplier promotions, often tied to specific drink or snack categories. The fuel rewards side is less generous than the cents-per-gallon-per-dollar-spent structure used by grocery chains, but compounds for daily customers who already buy coffee and snacks at 7-Eleven anyway.
7-Eleven vs major-oil brands
7-Eleven pricing tends to track Shell, Exxon, Mobil, and Chevron in the same market rather than running consistently below them. The c-store economic model relies on inside-store sales more than on absolute lowest pump price. Per-gallon savings between 7-Eleven and the major-oil brands are usually in the 0 to 5 cent range. Drivers chasing absolute lowest pump price should look at Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart and Murphy USA, or Buc-ee's where any of those operate locally.
7-Eleven vs Wawa and Sheetz
In Mid-Atlantic markets, the choice between 7-Eleven, Wawa, and Sheetz often comes down to food preference and loyalty patterns rather than per-gallon price. Wawa and Sheetz typically price a few cents below 7-Eleven in shared markets and have substantially better made-to-order food programs. Where Wawa or Sheetz operates, 7-Eleven's competitive position is weaker. Outside those regional cult-brand footprints, 7-Eleven's nationwide coverage is its main advantage.
Top Tier certification status
7-Eleven is not listed on the Top Tier Detergent Gasoline certified-brands list at toptiergas.com. Speedway is also not Top Tier certified. Drivers prioritizing the Top Tier additive package have many alternatives at every 7-Eleven market: Shell, Exxon, Mobil, Chevron, BP, Marathon, Conoco, Phillips 66, Sunoco, ARCO, Sinclair, Texaco, Valero, and Citgo are all Top Tier and widely available.
