Indiana hosts the BP Whiting refinery on the Lake Michigan shore, which is the largest refinery in the Midwest at roughly 440,000 barrels per day and serves as the dominant supply source for Chicago, Northwest Indiana, and large parts of the Midwest. The state gas tax is around 33 cents per gallon when sales tax is layered on, slightly above the Midwest average. Costco, Sam's Club, Speedway (now part of 7-Eleven), and Murphy USA at Walmart locations are the most reliable for value across Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and Evansville. Gary and Hammond often see the lowest pump prices statewide thanks to direct Whiting refinery supply.
